Volunteer With Us

We would welcome all adult volunteers to join us in helping to ensure the smooth running of the group. We have vacancies in the following areas:

Working with young people

• Beaver Section - Leader and Assistant roles

• Cub Section - Leader and Assistant roles

• Scout Section - Leader and Assistant roles

• Squirrels - Adults to start up and run the section

Group Management and Administration

• Fundraisers

• Community and social media officer

• Website manager

• Parent committee representatives

• Group Quartermaster

Adult joining process

If you wish to join as a adult volunteer then we need to collect some details from you and run these through the DBS checking process to ensure suitability for working with children or children's information.

Please follow this short guide for going through the application process.

1. Complete the Adult Information Form and return it a current 1st Milton Regis leader or Committee member. Please discuss the role you would like before applying as it is required on the form.

2. Complete a Identity Checking Form. Return this to a current leader or Committee member along with the original forms of Identification detailed as required on the form. (Driving License, Passport, utility bill etc.)

3. A current member will check the ID is valid for the application, the details are correct and then return you the ID.

4. Your details will then be entered onto the central Scout Association computer system called 'Compass' (This will either be when your ID is checked if the member has access or on a future date.)

5. Your ID information will be entered into the Scout Association DBS system called 'Atlantic Data' (Again this will be entered either on the day or later.) This is a two way process and once the data has been entered it will require you to complete the application. This is either directly on the members computer or via emailed link if done later. Please lookout for this email.

6. Once this is completed your ID and background checks are carried out by Atlantic Data. You are able to start your role at this point but not be allowed to access data or be left unsupervised with young people.

7. Your DBS results will be returned to the Group Scout Leader and your email address. If everything is clear your role will be pre-approved.

8. If you are applying for a Leader Role you will be asked to join the District Appointments panel at the next planned 'panel session' to ensure suitability. 9. Training will be given for all roles and will start with 3 mandatory online courses please complete this as soon as possible to make your role fully approved. (https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/learning-development-and-awards/training/learners/modules/getting-started-training/)

This sounds like a lot and complicated but other than completing a form or two the team at 1st Milton will guide you through it all. If you are looking you join us in a leader role you have the opportunity to complete the Four Week Challenge where over four weeks you progressively get more involved with your sections and start leading activities.
